Your New Favorite Pumpkin Pie Recipe {Foodie Friday}

Autumn is here and you know what that means: time to start making pumpkin pies! At least that’s what my husband tells me, and I’m not inclined to disagree.

I use a pumpkin pie recipe passed down from my mother and grandmother. It makes a darker, spicier pie than you might be used to, but I enjoy the added flavor and color, particularly when it’s served with some whipped cream on top.

Pumpkin Pie by Average Jane

Average Jane’s Perfect Pumpkin Pie

INGREDIENTS:
15 oz. can of plain pumpkin
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk (dairy-free milks work just fine)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, tightly packed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon molasses
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
1/8 teaspoon allspice (optional)
1 unbaked pie shell
DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix pumpkin, eggs, milk, sugar, salt, molasses and spices together thoroughly by hand and pour into pie shell. Bake for 45-60 minutes (until pie sets and is perhaps slightly browned on top). Cool, slice, and serve with your choice of whipped topping.
